Progress Report

Ron Bell has secured a donation from Lowe's that
will allow us set up our firewood sales fundraiser at the Fairview
campground. Firewood
sales have been a steady source of income for us at the main campground.

Our Earth Week Celebration was concluded with our annual membership
meeting and membership appreciation event at Tims Ford State Park on April
26.
The weather was perfect and many folks enjoyed the nature hikes, crafts, and
live music presented by the Shade Tree Pickers.
State Naturalist Randy Hedgepath, Ranger Sharon Reagan, and park employee
Ron Bell are shown helping youngsters enjoy a day in the park.
Many thanks to all who helped make this annual event a success.
TFEEA shared a booth with the park during the Dogwood Festival in
Winchester. The weather could have been better, but we still made contact
with many fine people who were interested in our program. Many thanks to
those who helped staff the booth.

GREAT NEWS
Tims Ford Environmental Education Association (TFEEA) was awarded a $5,000
grant from the Sanders Foundation to build our flight cages adjacent to the current visitors center.
LouAnn Partington is shown accepting the check from
the foundation. The pictures on the left are a scale model of the cages.
These cages will be used to house birds of prey that were not able to be
released back into the wild due to injury or imprinting. These birds will be
used as wildlife ambassadors, to help us educate our visitors, school
groups....... etc.
Ranger Sharon Reagan has informed us that we have
secured additional funding for the display cages for the non-releasable
birds. Private sponsorship and donations have been offered to cover the
difference between the Sanders Foundation grant and the cost of the
cages. All of the blueprints that the Park needs to go to the Building
Commission are completed, so with any luck, we'll be on the
Commission's agenda over the next couple of months and on schedule to obtain
approval by April or May.
Ranger Sharon Reagan & Park Manager Mike Robertson have also picked out some potential
taxidermy birds from the specimens left at the Park. Gary Farris is following
up with local taxidermists to see what services they might be willing to
donate.
