Progress Report

Pictured above is the first graduating class from the Junior Ranger Day Camp, along with the volunteers who made it
possible.  Missing from the picture are TFEEA representatives Bonnie Dixon, Sandra & Dwayne Meyers.

TFEEA gladly contributed the funds for bluebird box materials, and Ron Bell did an excellent job of leading the
group step-by-step through the building process.

$3,000 Grant Awarded to Tims Ford Environmental Education Association by The Community Foundation of Middle Tennessee

Nashville, Tennessee – The Community Foundation of Middle Tennessee has distributed more than $900,000 in grants to 198 nonprofit organizations in 30 Middle Tennessee counties as part of The Foundation’s annual grant making process.

Tims Ford Environmental Education Association (TFEEA) has received a $3,000 grant from the Animal Welfare Fund of The Community Foundation of Middle Tennessee to support its wildlife rehabilitation program.  Since TFEEA was founded in 2006, its state and federally licensed rehabilitators have provided care for over 1500 orphaned and injured hawks, owls, songbirds, small mammals and white-tailed deer.  “Each of our wild patients requires specialized food and caging while they are recuperating”, according to LouAnn Partington, a Certified Wildlife Rehabilitator and TFEEA Chairman.  “This grant will allow us to provide the best care possible for each animal that is brought to us.”

About The Community Foundation of Middle Tennessee The Community Foundation of Middle Tennessee oversees more than 700 charitable funds. In the past 18 years, The Community Foundation has distributed $440 million to its nonprofit partners. It is located at 3833 Cleghorn Avenue, #400, Nashville, Tennessee 37215. Charles (C.J.) Hills from Troop 402 in Tullahoma recently earned his Eagle Scout award by building a bird watching enclosure that will be used at the park. Charles spent 4 months, 240 hours, and enlisted the help of 27 people to complete this project. The Park and TFEEA extends our congratulations and thanks to Charles for this wonderful enclosure that will be used for many years to come by visitors to the park.

We have broken ground for the new Butterfly Garden at the Visitor Center. Employees from Jack Daniels Distillery volunteered to help and the distillery supplied box lunches for everyone. We welcome Jack Daniels as a Sustainer supporter of TFEEA.

Planting will take place in a couple of weeks. The garden covers the entire front of the Visitor Center and will be a beautiful addition to the park. A big "Thank You" to everyone who is working very hard to make this project successful.

On May 2nd a member appreciation day was held at the park for all current TFEEA members. The weather was not a good as we would have liked, but everyone still had a good time. TFEEA supplied the food and the Saturday Night Pickers provided some outstanding entertainment.
